Orange County Reading Association, Celebrate Literacy Award: Promoting literacy worldwide is the main purpose of the International Reading Association. Each year local chapters of the IRA, present on its behalf, the Celebrate Literacy Award to an agency, individual, or organization that has made a significant contribution to the promotion of literacy. On January 17, 2002, The Jester & Pharley Phund received this honor at the Orange County Reading Association's Winter Conference at Chapman University. The OCRA presented the Celebrate Literacy Award to The Jester & Pharley Phund for its efforts to promote literacy through their Literacy & Outreach Programs. |

Finalist, Friend of Children Award Toy of the Year Awards: The Toy Industry Association (formerly the Toy Manufacturers of America) honored The Jester & Pharley Phund as one of five national finalists for the Friend of Children Award during the toy industry's "Oscars." Finalists for the Friend of Children Award are recognized for having a public service program that makes a profound impact on the lives of children in their community or beyond. |

Hero Award: The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) honored Barbara Saltzman as an Everyday Hero at its Ribbon of Hope Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C., in 1998 in recognition of the incalculable benefits that The Jester Has Lost His Jingle has been giving to children diagnosed with cancer. General Norman Schwarzkopf was among numerous dignitaries honoring The Jester's Mom and her fellow Everyday Heroes. More than 30,000 Jester books and 30,000 Jester & Pharley Dolls have been donated to children through the Saltzman family's efforts. The Jester & Pharley Phund will enable thousands more children to benefit from David's inspirational message. |

Actors Guild BookPALS & U.S. Secretary of Education Presentation:
The Jester's Mom joined U.S. Secretary of Education Richard
W. Riley, "Dharma and Greg" star Thomas Gibson (pictured), other SAG members
and civic leaders in 1998 in the rededication of a refurbished Breed Street
School in East Los Angeles. The Jester & Pharley work closely with the
BookPALS literacy program of the Screen Actors Guild in its nationwide
efforts to expand literacy. Barbara Saltzman enacted The Jester
Has Lost His Jingle and donated 125 books to SAG for use in the
BookPALS program. |
