THE HONOREE-Molly Meyer, right, joins The Jester's Mom, Barbara Saltzman, on May 9 for presentation of the first Jester & Pharley Smile Cart, which was named in her honor. The "vertical toy box" on wheels was donated to Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital by the William and Wilma Dooley Foundation of Chicago. Ms. Meyer, a nurse practitioner for Yale University Health Services, helped care for Jester author-artist David Saltzman, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease during his senior year at Yale.

REVERENTIAL MOMENTThe Rev. Harry Adams, acting dean of the Yale Divinity School who was Chaplain of Yale and Master of Trumbull College when David was a student there, recalled David as "someone who was always helpful. He nourished beauty and laughter in our world and his contribution goes on" with The Jester Has Lost His Jingle and, now, The Jester & Pharley Smile Cart.

SONY BRINGS SMILES-Diane Castelonia, Assistant Marketing Manager, for Sony Medical Systems, joins the presentation of The Jester & Pharley Smile Cart at Yale-New Haven. Sony equipped the Smile Cart with a TV, VCR and CD-tape-radio unit. "We hope that our contribution can make a child's stay in the hospital a little busier, easier and happier," she says. "We at Sony Medical feel that anything we can do to promote wellness in children is a donation worth giving. We are so pleased to be part of The Jester & Pharley Phund's efforts and hope that our products will help The Phund continue to bring smiles to children."

Ms. Meyer, a nurse practioner with Yale University Health Services, has ministered to many generations of Yale students. "Her devotion has endeared her to countless Yalies for nearly three decades," says Barbara Saltzman, left, David's mother. "Her encouragement helped David finish his wonderful book."

JESTERS IN THE FAMILY-Danielle Joyce, 5, an outpatient at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, tells The Jester's Mom how much The Jester & Pharley help her when she needs treatment. "I love to share The Jester with my little sister Kristin," she says. Two-year-old Kristin, right, joins Danielle during a quick check-up.

 

PHUN WITH PHARLEY-Danielle Joyce, 5, holds Pharley and The Jester tightly when she gets check-ups at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. "The Jester & Pharley always make me smile," she bubbles. She is one of many children benefiting from The Jester & Pharley Phund's Donor Program.

 

"This is the Jester, Pharley and me under the rainbow. I like when The Jester makes everyone happy again. He always makes me happy."

FINDING LAUGHTER-The Jester Has Lost His Jingle brings smiles to 8-year-old Josh Crescenzi, who will always have The Jester & Pharley to remind him that laughter is hiding inside him.

A JESTER GREETING-Josh Crescenzi, receives his own copy of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle from The Jester's Mom, as honoree Molly Meyer beams. Ms. Meyer, a recipient of the American Cancer Society's prestigious Lane W. Adams Excellence in Caring Award, recalls watching David write and illustrate the book during his senior year. "His joy and laughter will always be with us," she notes.
AND HE SANG HIS FUNNY SONG-TV cameras record The Jester's Mom bringing smiles to guests celebrating the donation of the first Jester & Pharley Smile Cart at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. The cart, named in honor of Yale University Health Services nurse practitioner Molly Meyer, right, will be used daily to bring smiles to pediatric patients. Yale University Public Affairs Deputy Director looks on. Sony Medical Systems donated the TV, VCR and CD-tape-radio unit that will bring continuing cheer to children.
