A GENEROUS GESTURERepresentatives of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation and the Charity Golf Tournament gather around the Jester & Pharley Smile Cart and The Jester's Mom to talk about the benefits of the mobile toy chest on wheels. The Smile Cart is a gift to the pediatrics unit from proceeds of the 10th Annual St. Mary Medical Center Golf Tournament. OUR STORY BEGINSBarbara Saltzman, The Jester's Mom, reads The Jester Has Lost His Jingle to patients, family, caregivers and officers of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation and Charity Golf Tournament in Long Beach prior to the formal presentation of a Jester & Pharley Smile Cart to Pediatrics from the Charity Golf Tournament.
READY, SETSister Theresa Dennis, Pediatric RN at St. Mary Medical Center, gets ready to open the beribboned Jester & Pharley Smile Cart as The Jester's Mom provides assistance. "The Charity Golf Tournament is always a rewarding experience because it benefits the children," notes Dr. Vincent Esposito, chairman of the Charity Golf Tournament.
SMILING AT THE SMILE CARTSister Theresa Dennis opens the Jester & Pharley Smile Cart to reveal its bounty - a TV, VCR and CD-radio-audio unit donated by Sony Medical Systems, along with copies of David Saltzman's The Jester Has Lost His Jingle, Jester & Pharley Dolls and Jester & Pharley Bookmarks for gifting to patients, plus copies of 'The Jester Has Lost His Jingle' Curriculum Supplement and The Jester & Pharley PhunBook for patient and staff use. "Thank you so much," Sister Dennis says, acknowledging the generous gift of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation's Charity Golf Tournament. "This will make such a difference to our patients."
OPEN ARMSA young pediatric patient happily accepts a copy of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle from Sister Dennis, as the Jester & Pharley gifts from the Smile Cart are distributed to hospitalized youngsters attending the presentation.
FULL CARTThe Jester's Mom retrieves additional Jester & Pharley Dolls and copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle for patients gathered around for The Jester storytime and official presentation of The Jester & Pharley Smile Cart to St. Mary Medical Center's pediatrics unit. "It is our hope that the children will be able to find comfort in the Smile Cart, which was created by an organization dedicated to providing educational experiences that give every child a sense of hope, a feeling of self-empowerment, a love of learning and the joy of laughter," affirms Dr. Vincent Esposito, chairman of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation's Charity Golf Tournament, which donated the Smile Cart.

BRINGING SMILESBarbara Saltzman takes The Jester & Pharley to the bedside of eight-year-old Jerry Gomez with The Jester & Pharley Smile Cart donated by the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation's Charity Golf Tournament. The Jester's Mom shares a hug with Jerry's mom, Claudia Fajardo, as smiles fill the room while Barbara Saltzman reads The Jester Has Lost His Jingle . The story's message - that laughter is always inside us - is not lost on Fajardo and Jerry.
