During the three-week Read-A-Thon students from Washington Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 255,456 pages. The school, along with The Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation, was able to donate 35 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle and 35 Jester & Pharley Dolls to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, CA for use with their young patients.
Very impressive were the many creative posters Washington students created to show their love of reading. Especially note worthy were those that said:
●"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them."
●"Once you learn to read you will be forever free." -- Fredrick Douglas
