During the three week Read-A-Thon students from Dr. Peter Marshall Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 339,086 pages. The school, along with The Jason S. Subotky Charitable Fund, was able to donate 35 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle and 35 Jester & Pharley Dolls to UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA for use with their pediatric patients. |
The school was honored to have Hanan Thornton, Assistant Superintendent of Education for the Magnolia School District, present special Jester Jingle certificates to teachers of the top-reading classrooms and students at each grade level -- from transitional kindergarten through sixth grades. Charity Vasquez, Child Life Manager at UC Irvine Medical Center, accepted the Jester books and dolls on behalf of the hospital’s young patients, telling students how proud she was of their thoughtfulness. She also received another surprise for patients -- a variety of 71 other books from generous second graders and their teachers, presented by representatives of each second grade class. |
